OMU signs academic cooperation agreement with Peru’s Universidad Católica de Santa María at NAFSA 2026
ORLANDO, USA - Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) has signed a new academic cooperation protocol at the NAFSA 2026 Annual Conference & Expo held in the state of Florida, United States, in line with its internationalization goals. As a result of its meetings during the conference, OMU reached an agreement with one of Peru’s leading higher education institutions, Universidad Católica de Santa María, covering education and research collaboration.
Academic diplomacy in action
The agreement, prepared to strengthen inter-university ties at the conference held under the theme “Global by Design,” was signed by OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın and Rector Dr. Jorge Luis Cáceres Arce on behalf of Universidad Católica de Santa María.
Representing OMU at the signing ceremony were Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz, Rector’s Advisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Begüm Korunur Engiz, Head of the International Relations Office Dr. Ahmet Aycan, and Erasmus Institutional Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tütüncü.
The Universidad Católica de Santa María delegation was led by Rector Dr. Jorge Luis Cáceres Arce and included Vice Rector Dr. José Antonio Villanueva along with senior officials from the university’s international relations office.
Joint research and exchange programs
The agreement aims to establish strong academic and scientific bridges between the two institutions.
Within the framework of the protocol, concrete steps will initially focus on launching student and faculty exchange programs, developing joint research projects, organizing international scientific meetings and symposiums, and conducting preliminary work on dual degree programs.
NAFSA 2026 continues under the theme “Global by Design”
Bringing together educational institutions and professionals from across the globe in Orlando, NAFSA 2026 offers this year a forward-looking perspective centered on innovative planning and sustainable action.
Throughout the conference, the OMU delegation will continue its meetings with universities from different regions of the world, representing the academic potential of both Türkiye and Samsun on the international stage.
