OMU hosts fifth “LEE Science Talks” seminar on the mysteries of the universe
The fifth event in the “LEE Science Talks” series, organized by the Graduate School of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), was held.
The event, hosted at the Seminar Hall of the OMU Department of Library and Documentation, was attended by OMU Graduate School Director Prof. Dr. Faik Ahmet Sesli, OMU Faculty of Education Department of Science Education faculty member Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Kalkan, undergraduate and graduate students, academics from various faculties of the university, and many science enthusiasts from Samsun.
Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Kalkan, a faculty member of the Department of Science Education at the OMU Faculty of Education, delivered a talk titled “A Journey into the Mysterious World of Science,” in which he addressed scientific discoveries from the formation of the universe to the present day. He shared key astronomical concepts with participants, including the macro universe, light-year, stars, nebulae, the Milky Way Galaxy, black holes, and photons.
Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Kalkan also discussed topics such as the formation of our planet, the emergence of life on Earth, scientific thinking, curiosity, and the role of consciousness in scientific developments, emphasizing the importance of science in humanity’s effort to understand the universe. Highlighting that scientific curiosity and inquiry form the foundation of scientific progress, Prof. Dr. Kalkan emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary thinking and the scientific method in understanding the universe.
At the end of the event, OMU Graduate School Director Prof. Dr. Faik Ahmet Sesli presented a certificate of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Kalkan in recognition of his contributions.
