Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) has once again secured its place among the world’s leading higher education institutions in the Center for World University Rankings 2026 edition of the “World University Rankings.”

According to the rankings released by CWUR, OMU was ranked 36th in Türkiye, 1,708th globally, and 677th in Asia, placing the university within the top 8.1% of universities worldwide.

More than 21,000 universities evaluated worldwide

The CWUR 2026 rankings assessed 21,291 universities from 95 countries, identifying the world’s top 2,000 institutions. The evaluation was based on seven performance indicators grouped under four broad categories: education, employability, faculty, and research. Research performance was further measured through research output, high-quality publications, influence, and citations.

This year, 47 universities from Türkiye were included in the rankings. Among them, OMU maintained its position among the country’s leading universities and continued to strengthen its international academic visibility.

Research performance remains a key indicator

CWUR is recognized globally for assessing universities based on objective performance indicators rather than surveys and institutional submissions. The ranking places significant emphasis on research quality, scientific impact, and academic excellence.

OMU’s inclusion in the ranking reflects the university’s continued commitment to advancing research, expanding international visibility, and contributing to scientific knowledge production.

Harvard tops the global rankings

In the 2026 CWUR rankings, Harvard University ranked first globally, achieving a perfect score across all indicators. It was followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Cambridge, and University of Oxford.
