Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) has established a new vocational school dedicated to cybersecurity, marking a significant step toward strengthening Türkiye's qualified workforce in one of the country's fastest-growing strategic sectors. Created in partnership with HAVELSAN, the HAVELSAN Cybersecurity Vocational School will admit its first students in the 2026–2027 academic year.

Approved by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the school's newly established Mobile Security Technologies Program will enroll 30 students in its inaugural year.

Preparing Students for One of the Professions of the Future

As digital transformation accelerates and cyber threats become increasingly sophisticated, the new two-year associate degree program is designed to train highly skilled technical professionals specializing in mobile security.

Graduates will acquire the knowledge and practical competencies required across a wide range of sectors, including public institutions, the defense industry, banking, and technology companies.

Unlike traditional classroom-based programs, the Mobile Security Technologies Program, which is accepting students for the first time during the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) preference period, combines theoretical instruction with extensive practical training aligned with industry needs.

Students will study:

• mobile application and device security,
• programming fundamentals,
• network technologies,
• operating systems,
• cryptography,
• cybersecurity principles, and
• secure software development.

They will also gain hands-on experience in conducting security testing on Android and iOS platforms, identifying vulnerabilities, performing security analyses, and preparing professional security assessment reports.

A Strong Model of University–Industry Collaboration

The HAVELSAN Cybersecurity Vocational School brings together OMU's academic expertise with the industry experience of HAVELSAN, one of Türkiye's leading defense and information technology companies.

Throughout their education, students will reinforce classroom learning through laboratory work, project-based learning, industry collaborations, professional training activities, and internship opportunities. The program is designed to ensure graduates enter the workforce with both strong theoretical foundations and practical experience.

The establishment of the new school reflects OMU's continued commitment to expanding education in fields driven by digital transformation.

Two years ago, the University launched the Department of Information Security Technologies within the Faculty of Science, introducing undergraduate education in cybersecurity. During the same period, the Vocational School of Information Technologies also welcomed its first students.

Following the graduation of its first cohort of qualified technical professionals this year, the Vocational School of Information Technologies is now joined by the newly established HAVELSAN Cybersecurity Vocational School. Together, these initiatives further strengthen OMU's vision of preparing the highly skilled workforce needed not only for today's industries but also for the emerging professions of the future.
