OMU introduces traditional calligraphy project to support rehabilitation at juvenile correctional institution
Within the scope of the cooperation protocol signed between Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) and the Kavak Juvenile Closed Correctional Institution, an introduction program was held for the calligraphy ornamentation works carried out in the institution’s prayer room.
The program was attended by OMU Vice Rector Alper Kesten, Rector’s Advisor Emine Şendurur, Institution Director Selma Tekin, Handicrafts Department Lecturer Uğur Karataş, and department students.
The project, carried out by Lecturer Uğur Karataş and students from the Handicrafts Department of OMU Samsun Vocational School, aims to improve the aesthetic quality of the prayer room used by juveniles in conflict with the law and institution personnel. Prior to the program, institution officials provided information to Prof. Dr. Alper Kesten and Prof. Dr. Emine Şendurur about the activities conducted within the institution, while a calligraphy workshop organized by Lecturer Uğur Karataş and his students aimed to introduce juveniles in conflict with the law to traditional Turkish arts.
During the program, gifts and certificates of appreciation were presented to the Handicrafts Department academic staff member and students who carried out the ornamentation works by Prof. Dr. Emine Şendurur and institution officials. Institution Director Selma Tekin also presented a commemorative gift to Prof. Dr. Alper Kesten in appreciation of their support.
