OMU and Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Partner to Launch Lifelong Learning University
Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) is preparing to launch its Lifelong Learning University in cooperation with Samsun Metropolitan Municipality (SBB), with programs designed particularly to support the continued learning and development of adults aged 55 and over.
The initiative will operate under the OMU Education and Teaching Coordination Office in collaboration with the Department of Health and Social Services of Samsun Metropolitan Municipality.
As part of the preparations, representatives from OMU and Samsun Metropolitan Municipality met to inspect the building where the educational activities will take place.
The OMU delegation included Prof. Dr. Emine Şendurur, Rector’s Advisor and Education and Teaching Coordinator; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senem Gürkan, Coordinator of the Lifelong Learning University; Instructor Cüneyt Mumcu, Deputy Coordinator; and members of the project team.
Representatives from Samsun Metropolitan Municipality included Bekir Söylemez, Head of the Elderly Care and Health Services Branch; instructor Gülsüm Ayan; and Gamze Karagöz.
Educational Facilities Reviewed
During the visit, the delegation toured the facilities designated for the Lifelong Learning University and assessed the building and its existing spaces.
The participants also discussed preparations to ensure that the learning environments are appropriately designed to meet the needs of adults aged 55 and over.
Preparations for the planned educational activities were reviewed, with particular attention given to programs aimed at supporting participants’ personal, social, and academic development.
Through the Lifelong Learning University, OMU aims to encourage continued participation in learning at different stages of life and contribute to the wider adoption of a lifelong learning culture.
