Samsunspor FC inspires OMU students through football and social responsibility

Samsunspor FC Deputy President Veysel Bilen, Football Director Fuat Çapa, Head Coach Thorsten Fink, and players Rick van Drongelen and Olivier Ntcham attended the “From the Field to the Heart” talk hosted by Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU).

The talk, organized by the Samsun Youth Platform, the Society for Supporting Children with Leukemia, and the University Samsunspor Supporters Association, was held at the Atatürk Congress and Culture Center (AKM).

The event was attended by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Alper Kesten, Secretary General Prof. Dr. Erhan Burak Pancar, academics, and many students.

Prof. Dr. Alper Kesten: “Samsunspor FC is an important value of the city”

Before the “From the Field to the Heart” talk, which was held with strong student interest, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Alper Kesten delivered the opening speech. Kesten stated that although he is originally from Kayseri, he has supported Samsunspor since coming to Samsun, and that he was pleased that young people would leave the talk having learned something. Kesten said, “Raising social awareness about leukemia is of great importance. Such events contribute to increasing the level of awareness regarding the disease. Samsunspor is an important value of the city not only through its sporting achievements but also through its support for social responsibility projects. The cooperation between the university and Samsunspor will continue to strengthen through meaningful organizations.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Kuş: “We must increase the level of social awareness about cancer”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Kuş, Advisor of the Society for Supporting Children with Leukemia, also took the floor during the opening speech and stated that with the event, they aimed to raise awareness about healthy living, increase the level of social awareness about cancer, and support the activities carried out by LÖSEV (The Foundation for Children with Leukemia). Kuş stated that when sports combine with a sense of social responsibility, they create an inspiring effect on young people.

Başar Kuşkaya, President of the Society for Supporting Children with Leukemia, said that he experienced the cancer treatment process during childhood and drew attention to the importance of solidarity and struggling together: “There is no obstacle we cannot overcome when we stand side by side. What matters is not only winning, but being able to support one another in difficult times.”

Finally, Kazımcan Şen, President of the University Samsunspor Supporters Association, stated that as the University Samsunspor Supporters family, they actively take part in 43 different cities across Türkiye and emphasized that they would continue to fly the Samsunspor flag everywhere.

Inspiring messages from Samsunspor executives and players to young people

Speaking at the talk, Samsunspor Club Deputy President Veysel Bilen stated that Samsunspor has adopted the principle of increasing the city’s brand value in all non-commercial social projects and entered into a meaningful cooperation with the LÖSEV Society. At the event, held with the participation of the technical staff and footballers, young people were called on to strongly support Samsunspor both on the field and in off-field organizations.

Samsunspor Football Director Fuat Çapa also stated that Samsunspor’s doors are always open to students and said that they were very happy to take part in this meaningful event before the end of the league.

Head Coach Thorsten Fink said, “Because we are in the world of football, we have a special duty since we are seen as role models by many people. We came together with university students to share our experiences with young people. There are certainly things they can learn from us about life. We also tried to convey our own experiences to them in the best possible way.”

Inspiring students with the words “The bigger you think, the more you can achieve,” Fink stated that the limits of success are determined by imagination.

Players Olivier Ntcham and Rick van Drongelen also stated that meeting young people, answering their questions, and hearing new ideas made them feel good.

The talk concluded with a question-and-answer session following the participants’ speeches. Emotional moments were experienced at the ceremony when certificates of appreciation were presented to Samsunspor executives and footballers by children from LÖSEV.
