19 May enthusiasm crowned with spectacular performances in Samsun

As part of the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day celebrations, performances including folk dances, Capoeira, taekwondo demonstrations, and a ceremonial show by the Gendarmerie General Command Ceremony Unit attracted great interest in Samsun.

The program, held at the İlkadım Archery Hall, was attended by Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın, Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı, Samsun Garrison Commander Major General Davut Âla, AK Party Samsun Members of Parliament Orhan Kırcalı, Çiğdem Karaaslan, and Ersan Aksu, Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Halit Doğan, city protocol members, and many citizens.

Governor Tavlı: “We are experiencing the honor and pride of 19 May”

Speaking at the program, Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı emphasized the historical significance of 19 May in the Turkish nation’s struggle for independence:

“We are all experiencing together the honor, pride, and excitement of celebrating the 107th anniversary of the first step taken by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms on the road of the National Struggle leading to the liberation of our beloved nation and the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye, as well as our 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, here in Samsun, the city of 19 May and independence, where the torch of the Republic was lit.”

In his speech, Governor Tavlı also noted that the Turkish nation has fought great struggles throughout history for its independence and, with gratitude and mercy, commemorated the heroes of the National Struggle, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Following the speech, soil brought from Thessaloniki was presented to Governor Orhan Tavlı.

The program continued with performances by folk dance teams, Capoeira and taekwondo demonstrations, and symbolic shows by the Gendarmerie General Command Ceremony Unit.

Video screenings highlighting the meaning and significance of the day were also presented as part of the event.

The program, during which the spirit of 19 May was strongly felt, concluded with great public interest and participation.
