Thousands join Flag March and Torchlight Parade in Samsun for 19 May celebrations

As part of the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day celebrations, the “Flag March and Torchlight Parade” organized in Samsun was held with broad public participation. Carrying Turkish flags and torches, citizens came together in Samsun, the city where the National Struggle began, to celebrate the holiday with great enthusiasm.

Organized in cooperation with the Samsun Governorship, Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, and Provincial Directorate of National Education, the march began at 19:19 at Uğur Mumcu Park in the İlkadım district. Participants followed the route along İstiklal Street and 19 May Boulevard before reaching İstiklal Square.

Following the march, the Mehteran Unit of the Gendarmerie General Command gave a concert at İstiklal Square.

In addition to Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın, the program was attended by Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı, Garrison Commander Major General Gazi Davut Ala, Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Halit Doğan, protocol members, scouts, athletes, and numerous citizens.

Governor Tavlı: “We are keeping the spirit of the National Struggle alive together”

Speaking during the torchlight parade, Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı stated that the spirit of 19 May continues to be celebrated in unity and solidarity:

“Happy 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day to all the people of Samsun. We are sharing the spirit of the National Struggle together.”

Mayor Doğan: “The enthusiasm of 19 May extends beyond our cities”

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Halit Doğan expressed his satisfaction with the strong public participation in the event, saying:

“This evening, together with all the people of Samsun, we held a wonderful torchlight parade. Guests from our sister cities also joined this enthusiasm. The excitement of 19 May is felt not only in Samsun but also in many other cities. I congratulate our entire nation on the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.”

The celebrations held in Samsun, the city where the National Struggle began, continued with great public interest and patriotic marches throughout the evening.
