Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın participated in the "Kosovo–Türkiye Health Cooperation Panel" held in the city of Prizren, Kosovo.
The panel, which attracted significant interest from Kosovar healthcare professionals, focused on the current state of health relations between Türkiye and Kosovo, as well as future opportunities for collaboration in the medical field.
In the presentations delivered during the panel, it was highlighted that nearly 100 Kosovar doctors have received training at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) to date. It was emphasized that this ongoing educational cooperation in the field of health will continue to grow in the coming years.
Fikrim Damka, Minister of Development of the Republic of Kosovo, stated during his speech that Kosovar doctors who have pursued undergraduate and specialization training in Türkiye are making significant contributions to their home country. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Tradesmen’s Association (Esnaf Derneği) in this regard and noted that patients from Kosovo traveling to Türkiye for treatment will receive healthcare services through OMU in Samsun.
Minister Damka added:
“Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s arrival in Samsun to ignite the torch of independence marked a turning point in our nation’s destiny. Today, the very same Samsun has opened a valuable door of opportunity for the people of Kosovo to receive high-quality healthcare services.”
Sabri Tunç Angılı, Ambassador of Türkiye to Pristina, stated in his speech that healthcare cooperation between Türkiye and Kosovo is advancing on multiple dimensions. He highlighted that inter-university collaborations are enabling the treatment of patients in Türkiye whose conditions cannot be addressed in Kosovo, and he expressed his belief that the cooperation will continue to strengthen.
OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın emphasized the university’s 50-year history, 2,000 faculty members, and student body of over 50,000, including 5,000 international students. She stated that the panel was an important step in advancing OMU’s goals of internationalization and becoming a research university.
The panel continued with a presentation introducing Ondokuz Mayıs University, followed by testimonials from Kosovar doctors who had received their education at OMU. These alumni shared their personal insights and professional experiences with attendees.
