Cultural heritage of Aşık Veysel highlighted in OMU commemoration event

“Aşık Veysel Commemoration Event” was held at the Atatürk Congress and Culture Center (AKM) in cooperation with the Ondokuz Mayıs University Continuing Education Center (OMÜSEM) and the Turkish Folk Music Ensemble. The program brought to life once again the unforgettable works and profound artistic world of Aşık Veysel, one of the most influential representatives of Turkish folk poetry.

The event, organized to commemorate the works and cultural legacy of Turkish folk poet Aşık Veysel Şatıroğlu, began with a speech by Prof. Dr. Bekir Şişman, who discussed Aşık Veysel’s life, artistic perspective, the stories behind his poems, and his contributions to Turkish culture.

In the continuation of the program, works by Aşık Veysel were performed by OMÜSEM and the Turkish Folk Music Ensemble under the direction of Lecturer Dr. Oğuz Yılmaz. The concert featured unforgettable folk songs such as “Ben Gidersem Sazım Sen Kal,” “Dünyada Tükenmez Murat Var İmiş,” “Güzelliğin On Para Etmez,” “Derdimi Dökersem Derin Dereye,” “Anlatmam Derdimi Dertsiz İnsana,” “Gelmez Yola Gidiyorum,” “Beni Hor Görme Gardaşım,” and “Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım.”

The program concluded by emphasizing the importance of preserving and transmitting the artist’s cultural legacy to future generations.
