Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Agriculture graduated 125 students in the ceremony held at the synthetic pitch at Kurupelit Campus.
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sevilhan Mennan, Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tekin Kara, President of the Samsun Branch of Agriculture Engineers Chamber Hayati Tosun, government and civil society organization executives, academicians, and families have attended the ceremony.
The ceremony started with the opening speech of Ayşegül Gedik, who was the top scoring student of the faculty. "I thank our dear teachers who have trained us in this road we set forth to become an agricultural engineer, and my family for all of their endeavours" said Gedik in her speech.
Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tekin Kara, stating that Faculty of Agriculture Dean Prof. Dr. Orhan Kurt could not attend the ceremony due to his assignment, told the audience that Dean Kurt celebrated the graduates with all his heart and soul. Reminding the graduates that they have chosen an endless profession, Tekin Kara continued his speech with the following; “In this day and age there is the necessity to achieve a high yield rate from the existing agricultural lands, and Agricultural Faculties are the places that offer the necessary knowledge and education to achieve that. You have formed a strong basis for yourself with the training you have received from our faculty during your pupillage. I thank the instructors, administrative personnel, and your families who have all contributed in the forming of this basis.” Tekin ended his speech saying, “Do not be chair-bound workers but be free individuals who work in close connection with soil. Young engineers, god speed!”
Vice Rector Sevilhan Mennan; pointing out the fact that OMU, which has celebrated its 41st year in 2016, is an established and reputed university; has emphasized that the Faculty of Agriculture is one of the leading faculties at the university. “Today is the harvest day of the Faculty of Agriculture. I congratulate the families, the academicians, and the young agriculturalists. May righteousness be your guide. Godspeed and good luck” said Mennan who has identified herself as a member of the Faculty of Agriculture family.
Following the speeches Vice Rector Mennan has presented Ayşegül Gedik, Elif Öztürk, and Sevgi Serttaş who were the top ranking students of the Faculty respectively their awards. In addition to Prof. Mennan, President of the Samsun Branch of Agriculture Engineers Chamber Hayati Tosun has also presented awards to the top ranking students.
The students enjoyed their graduation to the full and threw their caps into the air to finalize the ceremony.
