Prof. Dr. Ahmet Rumeli, one of the founders of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Middle East Technical University (METU), gave an interview titled "Electric Energy and Turkiye" as a guest of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU).

Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Sevim Alışır, Prof. Dr.  Mahmut Başoğlu, Prof. Dr. Selim Eren, Dean of Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Yıldıray Topcu, Dean of Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Tevfik Özen, Dean of Faculty of Theology Prof. Dr. Osman Şahin, Advisor to the Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan Demir, academicians, and many students attended the event organized in the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Engineering.

In the interview with Prof. Dr. Rumeli, we listened to him about his childhood and youth years, his process of entering academic life, his field of expertise, and the steps to be taken regarding the situation of Turkiye's electricity and energy sector.

Although it is not an efficient method, we produce a lot of electricity from natural gas

Dr. Rumeli focused on meeting the country's energy needs and providing continuous energy in his presentation. Dr. Rumeli emphasized that electrical energy can be easily obtained from various sources such as water, coal, and natural gas, transmitted to different sources and converted into all kinds of energy. Mentioning that electrical energy is environmentally friendly, Dr. Rumeli said that this energy is very much needed worldwide.

Dr. Rumeli also evaluated the current situation of our country in terms of energy: "We can only use one-third of our country's potential in terms of electricity generation from water resources and coal. Due to the intense need, we produce a lot of electricity from natural gas, although it is not an efficient method."

Dr. Rumeli stated that Turkiye has significant potential in producing energy, but this potential has not been used sufficiently yet, and he concluded his speech by drawing attention to the country's resources, which are very rich in terms of renewable energy resources (solar energy, wind energy).

The interview ended with Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal presenting a gift to Prof. Dr. Ahmet Rumeli and taking a souvenir photo.
