EaZy Day 2026 at OMU Focuses on Library Budgets and Sustainable Collection Development

EaZy Day 2026 – Budget Management and Sustainable Collection Development in University Libraries, organized in cooperation with the Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Department of Library and Documentation, brought together university library professionals and representatives of the academic publishing sector to discuss current developments in scholarly publishing, budget management, and sustainable approaches to collection development.

The event was attended by OMU Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz, Secretary General Prof. Dr. Erhan Burak Pancar, Head of the Department of Library and Documentation Uğur Donbay, EaZy Solutions General Manager Sıtkı Aktaş, academics, library administrators and staff, and representatives of the academic publishing sector.

The Changing Role of University Libraries

EaZy Day 2026 addressed the changing needs of university libraries, the transformation of academic publishing, and sustainable approaches to collection development.

Discussions highlighted the central role libraries play in the production and dissemination of knowledge, including providing researchers with access to reliable information, supporting students throughout the learning process, and contributing to the continuity of academic research and publishing.

As electronic books, scholarly journals, databases, digital archives, and other electronic information resources occupy an increasingly important place in universities’ information infrastructure, changes in how libraries manage and allocate their resources were also among the event’s principal themes.

Opening Remarks

Opening remarks were delivered by Uğur Donbay, Head of the OMU Department of Library and Documentation; Sıtkı Aktaş, General Manager of EaZy Solutions; and OMU Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz.

Following the opening session, Prof. Dr. Kurnaz and Uğur Donbay presented Sıtkı Aktaş with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of EaZy Solutions’ contribution to and cooperation with the event.

Academic Publishing Discussed from Multiple Perspectives

Presentations held throughout the day addressed a broad range of topics, including academic publishing, electronic information resources, open access, budget management, and sustainable collection development.

The first session featured SAGE Publishing, with Hazem Khallaf presenting “The SAGE Difference: Adding Value to Academic Libraries.”

This was followed by a De Gruyter session titled “Navigating the Combined De Gruyter Brill Publishing World,” presented by Denis Godbout.

In the Oxford University Press session, Marcin Dembowski delivered a presentation titled “Looking to the Future for Libraries with Oxford University Press Resources.”

The program continued with Thieme Publishing, where Uwe Stehle presented “Thieme’s Budget-Friendly Highlights in Medicine and Chemistry.”

During the IOP Publishing session, Daniel Lungu discussed “Exploring and Expanding the World of Physics,” while Jay Salomon of the American Physical Society delivered a presentation titled “Maximizing Value from Every Agreement.”

In the afternoon sessions, LexiQamus presented its “Advanced Search and Linguistic Analysis Platform for Ottoman Turkish.” The presentation was delivered by Ahmet Abdullah Saçmalı.

This was followed by a Bentham Science session titled “Bentham Science: Open Access Publishing Focused on Quality, Speed and Impact for Authors,” presented by Dr. Gareth Dyke.

Panel on Budget Management and Sustainable Collection Development in University Libraries

The event’s central panel, titled “Budget Management and Sustainable Collection Development in University Libraries,” was moderated by Instructor İbrahim Ethem Olukçuoğlu.

The panel featured Dr. Sami Çuhadar, Head of the Department of Library and Documentation at İstanbul Bilgi University, and Melahat Karslı, Head of the Department of Library and Documentation at Karadeniz Technical University.

The speakers discussed approaches to budget management and sustainable collection development in university libraries, focusing on the challenges institutions face in balancing changing academic needs with available resources.

EaZy Day 2026 concluded with an evaluation session.
