OMU Opens Lifelong Learning University for Adults Aged 55–75 to Support Active Ageing

Applications for the new Lifelong Learning University, developed by OMU in cooperation with Samsun Metropolitan Municipality to promote active ageing and lifelong learning, will open on 15 September 2026.

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), in cooperation with Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, is launching a Lifelong Learning University (YBÜ) for adults aged 55–75.

Inspired by the increasingly widespread University of the Third Age model, YBÜ has been developed as a distinctive educational initiative drawing on OMU’s academic expertise, institutional capacity, and commitment to community engagement.

Applications for the social responsibility project, coordinated by the OMU Education and Teaching Coordination Office in cooperation with Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, will open on 15 September 2026.

Supporting Active Ageing and Lifelong Learning

The initiative aims to promote active ageing and make lifelong learning a sustainable part of participants’ lives through educational programs designed to support their physical, cognitive, and social well-being.

With a curriculum tailored to the needs and interests of adults in later life, YBÜ also aims to encourage intergenerational interaction, the sharing of knowledge and experience, and active participation in community life.

Courses and activities will be held in a building on the OMU campus that will also house the Üstün Küsefoğlu Science Communication Office.

The program is led by Prof. Dr. Emine Şendurur, Advisor to the Rector and Education and Teaching Coordinator, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senem Gürkan, Coordinator of the Lifelong Learning University.
