Green Campus Festival at OMU inspires students toward a sustainable future
The “Green Campus Festival” held at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) stood out for its activities promoting an environmentally conscious lifestyle.
Organized under the hosting of OMU with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and the Turkish Environment Agency, the “Green Campus Festival” was held with strong participation. The event, organized to raise environmental awareness and mobilize young people for a sustainable future, featured a range of engaging activities.
“Environment Truck” meets OMU students
The “Environment Truck,” which set out to encourage young people to become more environmentally conscious, met with students at its 42nd stop, OMU Kurupelit Campus. The event was attended by OMU Vice Rector Alper Kesten, Secretary General Erhan Burak Pancar, Director of OMU Environmental Problems Application and Research Center and Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering Nurdan Gamze Turan, as well as academics and students.
Information provided on recycling, zero waste, and renewable energy
Throughout the festival, various activities were organized during the day. Participants had the opportunity to learn about environmentally friendly practices through awareness trainings, workshops, competitions, and live performances. At the stands set up in the event area, information was provided on recycling, zero waste, and renewable energy. In the quiz competition organized during the event, various prizes were awarded to students. In the 24-question quiz, Hakan Ortahisar ranked first.
Officials emphasized the importance of increasing environmental awareness among young people and stated that such events would be expanded. Performances staged throughout the event provided enjoyable moments for participants.
Prof. Dr. Turan: “The Environment Truck project raises awareness among our students”
Prof. Dr. Nurdan Gamze Turan, Director of OMU ÇEVSAM and Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering, said, “The Environment Truck has come to our university. Our university carries out various activities on its path to becoming a sustainable and green campus. This Environment Truck project is a very valuable activity in terms of raising awareness among our students.”
During the program, artworks created by glass artist İbrahim Özçelik and painter Orçun Keskin were presented to students as gifts. The Green Campus Festival concluded with a group commemorative photograph taken at the end of the day.
