OMU strengthens Asia-Pacific partnerships at APAIE 2026 in Hong Kong

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) participated in the APAIE 2026 Higher Education Conference and Exhibition organized by the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE), widely regarded as one of the most prestigious global platforms in higher education.

Held in Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the event brought together more than 2,500 participants and over 500 higher education institutions from 65 countries.

At the fair, OMU took part in the “Study in Türkiye” pavilion coordinated by the Turkish National Agency, presenting Türkiye’s higher education potential to international stakeholders.

The OMU delegation included Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Alper Kesten, Rector’s Advisor Prof. Dr. Emine Şendurur, Head of the International Relations Office Dr. Lecturer Ahmet Aycan, and Erasmus Institutional Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tütüncü.

OMU delegation holds numerous bilateral meetings

Throughout the exhibition, the OMU delegation conducted numerous bilateral meetings with university representatives from various regions, particularly the Asia-Pacific. Discussions focused on student and staff mobility, joint research projects, dual degree programs, and broader academic cooperation. Within the scope of these meetings, significant steps were taken toward enhancing existing agreements and establishing new institutional partnerships.

Evaluating the event, Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın stated: “Taking part in a globally respected higher education platform such as APAIE 2026 is a concrete reflection of our university’s internationalization vision. As OMU, we aim not only to increase student and academic mobility but also to deepen international cooperation in research, innovation, and knowledge production. During our engagements in Hong Kong, we held productive meetings that will strengthen our academic and scientific partnerships, particularly with universities in the Asia-Pacific region. In line with our goal of becoming a globally competitive, highly visible, and collaboration-oriented university, we will continue our efforts with determination.”

Positioning internationalization as one of its strategic priorities, OMU enhanced its institutional visibility and strengthened its presence in global academic networks through its participation in APAIE 2026. The University aims to further deepen academic and scientific collaborations with the Asia-Pacific region in the coming period.
