OMU celebrates 51 years of academic heritage and service with a Tribute to Atatürk

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), one of the well-established institutions shaping Samsun’s scientific, educational, and social development, is celebrating its 51st anniversary, drawing on its strong academic heritage and more than half a century of experience.

On the 51st anniversary of its journey in education, science, and culture that began on 1 April 1975, OMU organized a wreath-laying ceremony at the Atatürk Monument in remembrance of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the inspiration behind its name.

During the ceremony, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms, the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland, as well as deceased members and students of OMU, were commemorated. Participants emphasized unity and solidarity, highlighting the university’s deep-rooted history and values.

The ceremony was attended by OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Alper Kesten, Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz, and Prof. Dr. Ayşe Pınar Sumer, along with deans, academic and administrative staff, and many students.

As part of the program, following a moment of silence, the National Anthem was recited, and the university wreath was laid at the Atatürk Monument by Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın.

In her speech, Rector Aydın emphasized OMU’s 51 years of scientific achievements and its mission to contribute to society, stating that the university continues to move forward with confidence by drawing strength from its past.

The ceremony concluded following the wreath-laying.
