Dr. Sema Gül Leads TÜBİTAK-Funded AI Project for Early Detection of Infant Skin Conditions

A project led by Dr. Sema Gül of the Division of Neonatology within the Department of Paediatrics at Ondokuz Mayıs University’s (OMU) Faculty of Medicine has been selected for funding under TÜBİTAK’s 1507 SME R&D Start-Up Support Programme.

Prof. Dr. Canan Seren will serve as an adviser on the project, titled “Early Detection of Infant Skin Conditions through an AI-Assisted Hybrid Approach and Mobile Health Integration.”

The research aims to develop a hybrid artificial intelligence-based diagnostic approach for the early detection of skin conditions commonly observed in infants. Using image-processing techniques and artificial intelligence algorithms, the project seeks to identify skin problems accurately and rapidly at an early stage and integrate the resulting data into mobile health applications.

The proposed system is intended to enable remote monitoring of infant skin health, facilitate earlier intervention, and improve access to healthcare services. By providing decision-support tools for both families and healthcare professionals, the project is expected to contribute to the early detection of skin diseases in infants.

Supported by TÜBİTAK, the project aims to introduce an innovative model in AI-based healthcare technologies while contributing to the wider use of mobile health applications and the development of digital health solutions focused on early diagnosis.
