Dr. Buğçe Aydın Leads TÜBİTAK-Funded Research on Magnetic Nanocarriers for Methotrexate Delivery
A project led by Dr. Buğçe Aydın, a research assistant in the Division of Chemical Technologies within the Department of Chemical Engineering at Ondokuz Mayıs University’s (OMU) Faculty of Engineering, has been selected for funding under the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Programme.
The project, titled “Methotrexate Delivery Using Magnetic Carbon Dots: Loading Strategies, Release Profiles, and In Vitro Cytotoxicity Evaluation,” aims to synthesise a magnetic carbon dot-based nanocarrier system with multiple targeting capabilities.
The effectiveness of the proposed nanocarrier in delivering methotrexate, a widely used chemotherapeutic agent, will be evaluated in detail through drug-loading strategies, controlled-release profiles, and in vitro cytotoxicity analyses.
The project also features interdisciplinary collaboration in the fields of nanotechnology and drug delivery systems. Researchers from the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Energy Institute at Istanbul Technical University will contribute to the study.
The findings are expected to support the development of targeted drug delivery systems and provide a scientific foundation for innovative approaches aimed at improving the effectiveness of chemotherapeutic agents while reducing their adverse effects.
