Graduation Ceremony of the Faculty of Engineering for the 2015-2016 Academic Year is held.

Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Akan, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sevilhan Mennan, Faculty of Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Fehmi Yazıcı, academicians, students and their families have attended the ceremony which was held at the artificial field located in the Campus.


Faculty’s top student Nurdan Övgü, who was a student at the Department of Food Engineering, made the opening speech and addressed her friends and the families at the beginning of the ceremony in which a total of 1184 students have graduated from the departments of Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering.

Faculty of Engineering continues its education activities in 10 departments with 5166 students. We are graduating a total of 1184 students this year 283 of whom are international students,” said Faculty of Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Fehmi Yazıcı who took the platform after Miss Övgü.

Additionally, Prof. Dr. Yazıcı gave brief information about the development of the Faculty in the last 8 years, and stated that the number of the students showed an increase of 100% in this period, and that the percentage of such increase was 40% in academicians and administrative staff.

Yazıcı also shared some information about Samsun Teknopark, and stated: “Samsun Teknopark went into action in July, 2015. 43 companies are active in the area of technological development, 11 of which are the companies of academicians, and 3 of them belong to our faculty. 45 projects are still being carried out in Samsun Teknopark, and 122 people are employed in this facility. Consequently, Teknopark has become an effective field of practice for our students and an important opportunity of employment for our graduates”. Yazıcı advised the graduates to trust the educational capabilities that they have gained, to determine effectively their objectives, and to study with patience in order to realize their goals. He also wished success for the graduates in their professional lives.

Rector Prof. Dr. Akan underlined in his speech that Engineering was the most significant profession shaping the future. He also emphasized the significance of R&D, and its vital and inseparable relation with the field of engineering. Akan addressed the graduates, and he stated: “Work hard. Don’t be afraid of working and improving yourselves. You will not get any harm from hard working, but you will get lots of benefits”.

After the speeches, Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Akan gave the plaques and the certificates of achievement to Nurdan Övgü, graduating from the Department of Food Engineering and ranking first in the Faculty of Engineering, Murat Yıldırım, ranking second in the Faculty, and Hilal Singer, ranking third. Then top three students of 10 different departments received their plaques and certificates of achievement from academicians.

The top ranking students also received various presents from the Unions of Trade Association, and all graduates took the Oath of Engineers. The graduates celebrated their ceremony by throwing their caps into the air.
