WE CELEBRATED AUGUST 30 VICTORY DAY

The 94th anniversary of the August 30 Victory was enthusiastically celebrated in Samsun. Governor of Samsun İbrahim Şahin, AKP MP Fuat Köktaş, CHP MP Kemal Zeybek, Garrison Commander Infantry Colonel Sedat Bulut, Samsun Metropolitan Mayor Yusuf Ziya Yılmaz, OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Sait Bilgiç, OMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kuran, Senior Administrative Officers, the representatives of state institutions and organizations, and the representatives of non-governmental organizations have attended the ceremony.

The celebrations began with the wreath-laying ceremony in which Governor Şahin, Colonel Bulut, and Metropolitan Mayor Yılmaz placed the wreath on the Statue of Honor (aka Atatürk Monument).

Governor Şahin signed the book of honour  during the ceremony, and said the following: “Our Chief Commander, the Great Leader, my beloved Ataturk; once more we are before you, in unity, to celebrate the liberation of our motherland from enemy occupation and to celebrate the 94th anniversary of the Victory Day when our nation has gained its independence again. Our exalted nation and our brave army have won this fight for our sacred values by, regardless of the strength of the enemies and the direness of the circumstances, undauntedly continuing the struggle. The foundations of Turkish Republic were laid with this victory which gave our nation its independence and showed the world that our nation will never give up its freedom. We remember you in the first place, and all our martyrs with grace, and all our veterans with gratitude who, as a unified nation, left this country to us. May God bless your soul.”

Next up, Samsun Anatolian High School students Mete Akın and Medine Özlek read poems to mark the meaning and importance of the day. Colonel İzgi also gave a speech and said; “This victory is the decisive result of the Turkish War of Independence which was started with the motto “Either Freedom or Death. Ghazi Mustafa Kemal first ignited the torch of freedom as an idea in Samsun, and then spread this idea to the whole country through the efforts in Amasya, Erzurum, and Sivas.”

Following the ceremony held at Atatürk Monument, a congratulatory ceremony was held at the governor’s office.
