Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) and Kavak Juvenile and Youth Closed Penitentiary Institution Have Signed a Cooperation Protocol.

Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal and Samsun Chief Public Prosecutor Mehmet Sabri Kılıç signed the protocol at the ceremony that took place at the OMU Rectorate Senate Hall.

Deputy Rectors Prof. Dr. Cengiz Batuk, Prof. Dr. Mahmut Başoğlu, and Prof. Dr. Sevim Alışır also attended the protocol ceremony.

The agreement aims to diversify the rehabilitation activities for children and young offenders and detainees in the penal execution institution and thus reintegrate them into society by preventing them from committing crimes again.

Within the scope of the signed protocol, in addition to in-kind and cash aid, cooperation is planned to be increased in various activities such as conferences, seminars, courses, talks, and social and cultural activities to be carried out in penal execution institutions by OMU and Kavak Juvenile and Youth Closed Penitentiary Institution.

Within the five-year validity period of the protocol, personnel will be assigned by both the penitentiary institution and the university for all kinds of activities and work carried out in cooperation, and the activities will be carried out in coordination with the coordinator responsible.

"We will provide educational support in many fields"

Speaking at the ceremony, Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal emphasized the importance of giving children a chance in life, stating, "OMU is an institution that prioritizes education in its strategic goals. Education has been the focus of all the protocols previously signed. These children are our children, and they may have somehow gotten involved in crime. However, for the future of the country and for us to live in a safe environment, our children need to be reintegrated into life. We also believe that children with different personality traits should be reported and monitored. As a university, we will provide educational support in many fields, considering the special positions of our young people in Kavak Prison."

"We have realized many protocol agreements with OMU"

Reminding of the protocols they have signed with OMU in previous years, Samsun Chief Public Prosecutor Mehmet Sabri Kılıç stated, "We have previously signed a protocol for postgraduate and foreign language education for judges and prosecutors. These programs have been fruitful for many of our judges and prosecutors. We have also made another agreement with OMU Foundation School to improve the education quality of personnel's children. We are signing our latest protocol for the children in the newly opened Kavak Prison, which includes rehabilitation-oriented courses, conferences, and sports activities. We want to implement this agreement with the experienced staff of OMU."

After the protocol signing ceremony, Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal and Samsun Chief Public Prosecutor Mehmet Sabri Kılıç expressed their wishes for the success of the protocol for both the country and the institutions.

The ceremony ended with a commemorative photo shoot.
