OMU Muay Thai team wins gold and bronze at Inter-University Türkiye Muay Thai Championship

The Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Muay Thai Team achieved a notable success by returning from the 17th Inter-University Türkiye Muay Thai Championship with one gold and one bronze medal.

Held in Burdur, the championship brought together 60 universities and 280 athletes from across Türkiye. In the highly competitive bouts, OMU athletes succeeded in reaching the podium.

Competing in the 57 kg A Class category, Yasin Muhittin Can outperformed his rivals to win the gold medal and earn the title of Türkiye champion. In the 71 kg A Class category, Cengiz Avcu secured a bronze medal, finishing third in Türkiye.

With his standout performance at the championship, Yasin Muhittin Can also earned the right to represent Türkiye at the Muay Thai Championship to be held in Brazil this June.

İhsan Güler, Head of the Sports Unit at OMU’s Department of Health, Culture and Sports, who accompanied the athletes in Burdur, expressed pride in completing the championship with two medals among 60 universities. He noted that the university remains ambitious in sports disciplines and continues to support student-athletes, adding that returning to Samsun with double medals was a source of great satisfaction and that the support of the Rectorate has been of great importance.
