Prepared specially for the 50th anniversary of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) by Prof. Dr. Metin Eker from the OMU Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting, the exhibition brings together selected works from 11 different models and one installation from the academician’s 38-year production process, offering a comprehensive retrospective.

Within the scope of OMU’s 50th anniversary events, Prof. Dr. Metin Eker’s personal painting exhibition titled “38/50: Retro-Perspective” was opened.

The exhibition, which met art lovers at the OMU Faculty of Fine Arts Art Gallery, was attended by many participants. Consisting of a total of 13 works, one of which is an installation, the exhibition carries traces of Prof. Dr. Metin Eker’s 38 years of academic and artistic production at the university and presents his body of work to the audience with a retrospective (from past to present) perspective.

“I feel the happiness of representing my university artistically on every platform”

Speaking about the title of the exhibition, which refers to the university’s 50th anniversary, Prof. Dr. Eker stated that OMU has a deeply rooted tradition strengthened by its connection to the beginning of the National Struggle, and said:

“I feel the happiness of representing my university, of which I am proud to be a member, artistically on every platform.”

Eker emphasized that he has represented both the university and Samsun in exhibitions he has opened to date both in Türkiye and abroad, including in cities along the route of the National Struggle and at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.

The works allow viewers to see the artist’s production phases as a whole

Composed of selected works from the artist’s 38-year accumulation of art at the OMU Fine Arts Campus, the exhibition offers important insights into Eker’s artistic past, which he describes as a “retro-perspective.” The works produced from eleven different models provide viewers with the opportunity to observe the artist’s production phases in a holistic manner.

The exhibition also met art lovers as part of the “Samsun, a University City in Its 50th Year Workshop,” which will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, in cooperation with Ondokuz Mayıs University, Samsun University, the Metropolitan Municipality, and the Cultural Arts and Tourism Academy Association.

The exhibition will remain open to visitors until December 12, 2025

Prof. Dr. Metin Eker thanked all participants who honored the opening of the exhibition and expressed his gratitude to the supporting institutions and art lovers. The exhibition will remain open to visitors at the OMU Faculty of Fine Arts Art Gallery until December 12, 2025.
