At the "Career Day" event organized by Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Ali Fuad Başgil Faculty of Law, Turkish and Italian lawyers shared essential issues and points regarding their legal discipline, expertise, and careers with students.

Dean of Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Hasan Tahsin Keçeligil, Prof. Dr. Marzia Rossi, and Prof. Dr. Pasquale Peluso from Macrony University in Italy, and Ali Fuad Başgil Faculty of Law academics, students, and alums attended the event organized at the Distance Education Center (UZEM) located at OMU's central Kurupelit Campus.

Dean Prof. Dr. Keçeligil “A school exists with its students and graduates”

Speaking at the opening speech of the event, where the participants broadened their horizons and socialized in different branches of law, Prof. Dr. Hasan Tahsin Keçeligil, Dean of the Ali Fuad Başgil Faculty of Law, stated that they are happy and honored to have the current and graduate students of the Faculty together, and said:

"Today, we have taken the first step in the series of events we have been considering for years. The most valuable asset of a school is its current and graduate students because a school exists with its students and graduates. We train students at school, and our graduates are our face in the legal community. The history of our faculty does not date back many years. Still, we had planned meetings about four years ago, such as keeping strong ties with our alums, bringing our current and alums students together, career planning, and information on this subject. However, due to the pandemic affecting the whole world, we had to shelve our plans with the online education process in Turkey at the beginning of the pandemic. Today, we again switched to the online period due to the great earthquake disaster. Despite everything, we have gathered at this event today to show our determination. You made us happy by coming here, and we started our career days with this step."

The event was followed by presentations where participating Turkish and Italian legal academics shared their knowledge and experience on Italian law, different branches of law, the effects of digital technology on the discipline of law, as well as their professional experience and future advice to the mid-year and graduate students of Ali Fuat Başgil Law Faculty.

Overview of criminology

In the first presentation of the first session, Prof. Dr. Pasquale Peluso from the University of Macony, Italy, addressed the participants with the title of "Criminology and the Role of the Criminologist in Italy" while addressing the different approaches of criminology (the branch of science that studies crime and criminality as a social phenomenon) from the 20th century to the present, and the use of criminologists in Italy, and discussed their legal position.

Civil law in Italy

The second presentation, titled "Italian Civil Law: Its Articulations and Implications," was made by Prof. Dr. Marzia Rossi from the University of Macony, Italy. In her presentation, Rossi informed the participants about the distinction between private law and public law, Italian civil law as a part of private law, the issues regulated by the Italian Civil Code, and its content.

New perspectives in law with ChatGPT

The final presentation of the first session was made by Dr. Atilla Kasap, a faculty member at Ali Fuad Başgil Faculty of Law, titled "ChatGPT and Its Possible Effects in the Field of Law." In his presentation, Dr. Kasap focused on the capacity and working principles of ChatGPT software, which was recently presented to the public and is a large language model. He discussed the potential results that this software can trigger in the field of general artificial intelligence systems and robotics, the role it can play in changing the legal status of artificial intelligence and similar systems, including ChatGPT, and the applicability of the European Union's Artificial Intelligence Regulation Draft, which were opened for discussion.

In the second session, visiting faculty members from the University of Macony, Italy, enlightened the participants by discussing their legal education and professions in Italy.

Experiences of OMU Academics in the US and UK
