OMU Welcomes 48,129 Students as the 2026–2027 Academic Year Begins

OMU campuses came back to life as students from across Türkiye and around the world began the new academic year, with free meals offered to students and staff from September 21 to 25.

The campuses of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) came back to life with the start of the 2026–2027 academic year, as 48,129 students from across Türkiye and around the world returned to classrooms in Samsun.

After the quieter summer months, campus roads, faculty buildings, cafeterias, and common areas once again filled with students beginning a new year of study, reconnecting with friends, and discovering university life for the first time.

A New Beginning for First-Year Students

For students just beginning their university journey, the first morning brought the familiar excitement of finding lecture halls, navigating the campus, and meeting new classmates.

With course schedules in hand, first-year students added new energy to faculty corridors and campus spaces, while friendships began to form in cafeterias, on lawns, and outside academic buildings.

Returning students, meanwhile, reunited after the summer break, quickly restoring OMU’s lively campus atmosphere.

Academic Life and Campus Energy Return Together

As lecturers welcomed students back to classrooms and introduced the new semester, common areas across campus once again became busy meeting points between classes.

New students explored their surroundings, while returning students reconnected with classmates and academic staff, marking the beginning of another active academic year at OMU.

Free Meals for Students and Staff During the First Week

One of the most welcomed initiatives of the opening week came from OMU’s dining halls.

To support a positive start to the new academic year, the University is providing free meals to all students and staff from September 21 to 25 across its dining facilities.

OMU Secretary General Prof. Dr. Erhan Burak Pancar visited the dining halls on the first day together with staff from the Department of Health, Culture and Sports, reviewing preparations and operations for the new semester.

The initiative also provided students with another opportunity to meet and socialize during the first days of the academic year.

OMU Welcomes More Than 48,000 Students

OMU begins the 2026–2027 academic year with 48,129 students across its academic units.

The University comprises 19 faculties, 3 institutes, 13 vocational schools, 1 school, and 1 conservatory.

OMU is also home to 2,285 academic staff and 4,251 administrative staff.

Among the University’s students, 4,016 are international students, reflecting OMU’s growing international community.

With the excitement of new beginnings and returning friendships, OMU has entered the 2026–2027 academic year with its campuses once again fully active.
