OMU and Edinburgh Napier University Sign Strategic Cooperation Agreement

The new Memorandum of Understanding will expand student and academic mobility, joint research, and scientific collaboration, while also supporting plans to bring the Annual Solar & Wind Power Conference to Samsun in 2027.

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) has signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland, United Kingdom, as part of its internationalization strategy.

During OMU’s visit to the United Kingdom, Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın met with Prof. Dr. Nazira Karodia, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Edinburgh Napier University, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation between the two institutions.

Existing Academic Collaboration Expanded to the Institutional Level

The agreement brings existing academic collaboration between the two universities into a broader institutional framework.

This cooperation builds on ongoing joint projects and scientific publications involving Instructor Dr. Kadir Kaya of OMU and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nazmi Sellami of Edinburgh Napier University, who conducts research in renewable energy technologies and serves as Chair of the Annual Solar & Wind Power Conference (ASWPC).

Under the MoU, the two universities plan to develop cooperation in a range of areas, including student and academic staff exchanges, joint research projects, and broader scientific collaboration.

New Opportunities for Renewable Energy Collaboration in Samsun

The partnership is also expected to support international project applications, including initiatives backed by the British Council, as well as ongoing research cooperation in renewable energy.

As part of these efforts, the two institutions aim to organize the 7th Annual Solar & Wind Power Conference (ASWPC 2027) in Samsun, hosted by OMU.

The conference is expected to provide a new platform for international academic and scientific collaboration in renewable energy technologies while strengthening Samsun’s connections with researchers and institutions working in the field.

Rector Aydın: “The Agreement Will Make an Important Contribution to Our Internationalization Vision”

OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın said the partnership would make an important contribution to the University’s internationalization strategy.

She emphasized that OMU would continue its efforts to strengthen academic and scientific relations with higher education institutions in different countries.

The agreement with Edinburgh Napier University is expected to deepen existing academic ties, facilitate new joint research initiatives, and expand international collaboration across a range of scientific fields, particularly renewable energy.
