Students from the Art Education Program within the Department of Fine Arts Education at the Faculty of Education of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) have successfully completed three social responsibility projects as part of the Community Service Practices course, bringing aesthetic and functional improvements to a variety of community spaces.

The projects included colorful artistic murals for the Pediatric Emergency Department at OMU Hospital and the Department of Industrial Engineering, as well as the completion of a large-scale canvas painting themed "Atatürk, Youth, and Samsun" at the İlkadım Archery Club.

The projects were carried out under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sena Sengir Aydın. Rather than working on a single initiative, students chose to undertake three separate projects, successfully completing each through their enthusiasm and dedicated efforts.

Created by 15 students, the original artworks were implemented at different institutions, leaving permanent artistic contributions that benefit the wider community.

Pediatric Emergency Department Brightened Through Art

The first project was carried out in collaboration with the Chief Physician's Office of OMU Hospital at the Pediatric Emergency Department.

Students designed and painted original wall murals, transforming the clinical environment with colorful, child-friendly artwork.

The project aimed to help young patients experience the hospital as a warmer, safer, and more welcoming environment.

An Artistic Transformation for the Department of Industrial Engineering

The second project was implemented in collaboration with the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering.

Students redesigned the department's interior walls with original artistic compositions tailored to the interests and characteristics of its academic community.

In addition to enhancing the aesthetic quality of the learning environment, the project also fostered a stronger sense of belonging among students through permanent artistic installations.

Celebrating the Spirit of May 19 Through Art

The third project was organized in cooperation with the İlkadım Youth Center as part of the celebrations marking the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day on 19 May.

Students created a large-scale canvas artwork inspired by the themes of Atatürk, youth, and Samsun. During the event, members of the public were also invited to contribute, transforming the painting into a collaborative community artwork.

The event was attended by Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı, members of parliament, and local officials. The artwork attracted considerable appreciation while demonstrating the unifying power of art by bringing together people from different segments of society.

Reflecting on the projects, Dr. Aydın thanked her students for their commitment throughout the semester.
