OMU Student Yasin Muhittin Can Crowned World Champion in Muay Thai at FISU Championship

Yasin Muhittin Can, a student in the Department of Sports Management at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Yaşar Doğu Faculty of Sports Sciences, achieved a major international success by winning the gold medal in the men’s 57 kg Muay Thai category at the Brasília 2026 FISU World University Championship Combat Sports held in Brazil.

Representing both Türkiye and OMU at the championship held in Brasília from 8 to 13 June, Can delivered an outstanding performance throughout the tournament and became World Champion, bringing great pride to his country and university.

An Unstoppable Performance on the Road to Gold

Competing in the 57 kg category, Yasin Muhittin Can displayed remarkable determination, discipline, and technical skill throughout the championship. On his path to the title, he faced strong opponents from Hungary, Saudi Arabia, and Ukraine, winning all his bouts and securing the gold medal.

This world championship title, achieved at one of the most prestigious international university sports organizations, stands as a significant source of pride for both Türkiye and the OMU community. The success also reflects OMU’s strong support for student development not only in academic life but also in sports, arts, and international competition.
