OMU athletes dominate at UNILIG Türkiye Taekwondo Championship with multiple podium finishes

Athletes from Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) achieved significant success with their results at the UNILIG Inter-University Türkiye Taekwondo Championship held between 17–21 April 2026, hosted by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University.

In the championship, which brought together a total of 442 athletes from 91 universities, OMU athletes succeeded in reaching the podium with their outstanding performances in different categories.

Individual achievements stand out

At the championship, Alihan Kuru (58 kg), Tuvanna Nazlı Kesgin (46 kg), and Kardelen Demir (73 kg) became Türkiye champions and won gold medals in their respective categories. In addition, Senanur Çelik (53 kg) won a silver medal as Türkiye runner-up, while Edanur Çelik (57 kg) and Berat Kurt (68 kg) secured bronze medals by finishing third in Türkiye.

Strong performance also at team level

In addition to individual achievements, OMU also achieved notable rankings in team standings; the Men’s Team placed third in Türkiye, the Women’s Team placed second, and OMU ranked second overall.

With these achievements of its athletes, Ondokuz Mayıs University once again demonstrated its strong position in university sports and continues its efforts to support student-athletes and enhance their sporting success with determination.
