OMU wins gold and bronze at UniLig Türkiye Kickboxing Championship
Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Kickboxing Team brought great pride to Samsun by winning 1 gold and 1 bronze medal at the ÜniLig Türkiye Kick Boks Şampiyonası.
Hosted by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University and attended by 92 universities from across Türkiye, the championship witnessed notable performances by OMU athletes.
At the event held at MAKU Sports Facilities, Yasin Muhittin Can, competing in the 57 kg category, defeated all his opponents to claim the gold medal, bringing the Turkish championship title to OMU. Competing in the +70 kg category, Zeynep Akbay stepped onto the tatami and secured the bronze medal, finishing third in Türkiye.
Standing out with their results in a championship that featured approximately 700 athletes, Yasin Muhittin Can and Zeynep Akbay also earned the right to represent Türkiye at the European Kickboxing Championship.
Speaking after the championship, İhsan Güler, Sports Branch Manager of OMU’s Department of Health, Culture and Sports, stated:
“We are delighted to be part of such a significant organization as OMU. Completing the championship with two medals is a great source of pride for us. Our university has always been ambitious in sports branches and continues to support its student-athletes. Throughout this process, we have always felt the strong support of our rectorate.”
Güler also thanked Fatma Aydın, Rector of OMU, and Erhan Burak Pancar, Secretary General, for their support of the athletes.
