A first in Türkiye in the field of vocational education has been realized in Samsun. Türkiye’s first and only comprehensive “Electric Vehicles Training Center” has been established within Ondokuz Mayıs University Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School (OMU MTAL).

Within the scope of a project carried out by the Samsun Provincial Directorate of National Education and supported by the Central Black Sea Development Agency (OKA) under the Social Development Support Program (SOGEP), Türkiye’s first and only comprehensive “Electric Vehicles Training Center” was established at OMU MTAL. Implemented with a grant of TRY 6 million 37 thousand provided by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the center stands out as a pioneering model among vocational and technical education institutions with its technical equipment, applied infrastructure, and educational content.

“220 people will receive training in electric vehicle technologies”

At the Electric Vehicles Training Center, where applied and qualified education will be provided, training will cover the fundamental structure of electric vehicles, battery and motor systems, high-voltage safety, fault detection, applied workshop practices, and skills training aimed at vocational competencies. Within the scope of the project, 220 people—including OMU MTAL students, young unemployed individuals living in Samsun, women, individuals under income risk and social vulnerability, and adults in need of vocational development—will receive training in electric vehicle technologies. Participants who successfully complete the training will be awarded a Europass-recognized competency certificate.

Contribution to employment and sectoral transformation

Beyond being merely a training area, the Electric Vehicles Training Center was designed as an exemplary project that directly contributes to employment, enhances vocational skills, and supports the green transformation of the automotive sector. The project aims to create a sustainable human resource for electric vehicle technicians and the engineering professions of the future. In this respect, the center elevates Samsun to a nationally exemplary and reference training hub in the field of electric vehicle technologies, while also bringing a new vision to vocational and technical education.

Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı, Provincial Director of National Education Murat Ağar, OKA Secretary General Mehlika Dicle, and protocol members visited the center. Governor Tavlı toured the facility and received information about the equipment.

Providing information about the center, Samsun Provincial Director of National Education Murat Ağar said: “We have inaugurated the Electric Vehicles Training Center, which is the first in Türkiye. With the support of OKA and the Samsun Governorship, the workshop installation was carried out by the Ministry of National Education. In our province, at OMU Vocational Education High School, our students receive education in areas such as cybersecurity, software development, and electric vehicles. In this workshop equipped with the latest technology, they will complete their training using simulator-equipped tools, real engines, and appropriate equipment. Electric vehicle technologies have been developing very rapidly in recent years. Students graduating from this department can also prefer fields such as engineering thanks to their academic competencies. At the same time, they will possess the skills required to work in in-demand fields in the sector.”

Students stated that having such a training center is a major advantage for them.
