Unity and Tradition Come Together at OMU’s Aşure Event

The spiritual atmosphere of the month of Muharram was brought to life at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) with the distribution of aşure. Organized by the Department of Health, Culture and Sports (SKSDB), the event featured the distribution of aşure to students, academic, and administrative staff.

 

A Traditional Delight Symbolizing Sharing

Reflecting the spirit of sharing and solidarity inherent in the month of Muharram, OMU’s traditional aşure event garnered great interest. The event was attended by OMU Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Alper Kesten, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Pınar Sumer, and Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz, along with students, academic, and administrative staff.

 

Cultural Introduction for International Students

The event not only featured the distribution of aşure but also served as a cultural introduction to international students studying at OMU. Students from various parts of the world experienced the joy of tasting this traditional dessert for the first time and learning about its cultural significance.


Aşure Handed Out by University Officials

Symbolizing the abundance and unifying spirit of the month of Muharram, the aşure was personally distributed by university officials and SKSDB staff. The event, held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, emphasized a strong sense of unity and togetherness.


Turkish Flag Motif Aşure Tray Drew Attention

One of the most striking details of the event was an aşure tray decorated with a motif of the Turkish flag. This visual element attracted significant attention from participants and added a special meaning and aesthetic to the event.
