“Soothe” project earns top award for OMU student in national design competition
Ebrar Kırcı, a senior student in the Industrial Design Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), won first prize in the Metal Products category at the İstanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters’ Associations (İMMİB) 2025 Industrial Design Competition with her project titled “Soothe.”
Organised for the 21st time this year under the theme “Creative Solutions and Designs for Unpredictable Situations,” the competition was held by İMMİB in cooperation with the İstanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters’ Association (İDDMİB) and the İstanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters’ Association (İKMİB).
The competition aims to bring young designers’ innovative ideas together with industry and to encourage export-oriented, value-added product design. Within this framework, the submitted projects were evaluated by the jury based on criteria such as originality, functionality, manufacturability, and sustainability.
Kırcı’s award-winning project “Soothe” drew attention for its innovative approach to the use of metal materials and for the solution it proposed for unpredictable situations.
This achievement was regarded as a significant indicator of the design-oriented education approach of OMU’s Faculty of Fine Arts Industrial Design Department and of the creative potential of its students.
