The Health Tourism Unit established at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Medicine was visited by the university administration.
Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın, Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz, Head of the Health, Culture and Sports Department Lecturer Selman Arslan, and OMU Faculty of Medicine Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Ünsal Özgen conducted inspections in the unit. During the visit, they spoke with patients and held discussions with healthcare personnel regarding the operation of the newly opened unit.
The Health Tourism Unit, which began admitting patients on September 15, 2025, has a total capacity of 25 beds, all in single-occupancy rooms. The first patient at the unit came from Mauritania, underwent all diagnostic procedures, and received a confirmed diagnosis in a short time. In order to facilitate communication, interpreter support is also provided for patients.
Since its establishment, the OMU Health Tourism Unit has welcomed patients from 33 different countries, including Georgia, Iraq, Iran, Azerbaijan, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the UK, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Croatia, Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro, Afghanistan, Syria, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Romania, Egypt, Yemen, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, and Mali.
In 2024 alone, 1,636 international patients sought treatment at OMU. In just the first half of 2025, the unit served patients from 30 different countries.

In her remarks following the visit, Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın stated:
