OMU and Green Crescent Samsun strengthen cooperation in combating addiction
Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) and the Green Crescent Samsun Branch Presidency signed a comprehensive cooperation protocol to strengthen collaboration in combating addiction within the scope of the 2026 Independence Year.
At the signing ceremony held at the OMU Rectorate, the protocol was signed by OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın and Green Crescent Samsun Branch President Emre Güneş.
The ceremony was attended by OMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşe Pınar Sumer, Director of the OMU Center for Combating Addiction Application Dr. Alaattin Altın, Green Crescent Samsun Branch Vice President Dr. Mustafa Selim Altınışık, Green Crescent Samsun Branch Board Members Mustafa Kasapoğlu and Metin Aktürk, and Yeşilay Samsun Branch staff member Ceyda Taşdemir.
Awareness trainings on combating addiction to be organized
The cooperation agreement will be carried out under the coordination of the Center for Combating Addiction Application and Research operating within OMU. Within the scope of the protocol, awareness trainings on combating addiction will be organized for university staff and students. In addition, psychosocial support will be provided to individuals and families in need through the Green Crescent Counseling Center (YEDAM).
Scientific studies to be conducted with academic support
Within the framework of the protocol, promotional activities for Green Crescent and YEDAM will be carried out during events organized on university campuses, while efforts to raise awareness on combating addiction will be expanded. Furthermore, it is planned to develop social and cultural projects, encourage the active participation of student clubs, and conduct scientific studies with academic support. Through these initiatives, it is aimed to increase awareness of combating addiction across society.
Awareness activities to be expanded through joint events
With the protocol agreement, which will be valid for three years, it is envisaged that awareness activities will reach wider audiences through joint events to be organized on special days and weeks, particularly Green Crescent Week. It was emphasized that this cooperation will make significant contributions to combating addiction both among university youth and across society.
