The 6th International Culture Day event, organized by the School of Foreign Languages (YDYO) at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), brought together cultures from 30 countries. Accompanied by a visual feast, the event provided an opportunity for YDYO preparatory class students to showcase not only the cultural awareness skills they had acquired throughout the year but also their language skills.

This special day, held every year, is intended to increase YDYO students’ international cultural awareness and to enable them to effectively demonstrate the foreign language skills they have acquired during their preparatory education. This year’s organization turned into a true cultural festival, featuring costume introductions, cultural poster presentations, traditional gastronomy, and dance performances carefully prepared by the students. The event was also supported by the Folk Dance Team of the Faculty of Fine Arts with Zeybek and Efe dance performances.

Event coordinator Lecturer Mustafa Bozdoğan emphasized in his opening speech that the event was not only a celebration but also an important learning opportunity that helps raise individuals who respect differences. The event was attended by YDYO academic and administrative staff, faculty members from the Department of Foreign Language Education at the Faculty of Education, faculty deans, and heads of various units.

Throughout the event, students not only developed a more inclusive and understanding perspective toward different cultures, but also strengthened their awareness of their own cultural roots. All local and international students of the School had the opportunity to conclude the intensive academic year by both having fun and learning. The 6th International Culture Day became a meaningful closing event that will remain in memory, reflecting OMU’s multicultural education vision and student-centered approach.
