Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Endocrinology organized a special sapling-planting activity titled “OMU Diabetes Forest Sapling Planting”, held under the theme “Breathing life into the future with our children receiving treatment!” to raise awareness about diabetes.

The event took place in the garden of the Faculty of Engineering on Kurupelit Campus and brought together OMU Secretary General Prof. Dr. Erhan Burak Pancar, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. Yıldıray Topçu, Vice Dean Prof. Dr. Nihan Kaya, academics, healthcare workers, students, and children receiving treatment at OMU along with their families.

Prof. Dr. Leyla Akın: “We are strengthening the bond of friendship we share with our children”

During her speech, Pediatric Endocrinology Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Leyla Akın emphasized the deeper meaning of the event:

“We are a team, and the children receiving treatment are the most valuable part of this team. Today’s event is not only about planting saplings; it also symbolizes strengthening the bond of friendship we have built with our children. I believe that with every shovel of soil they place, this bond will grow stronger. I thank all participants with the hope that next year we will hold a small gathering under these trees.”

Prof. Dr. Murat Aydın: “We wanted to contribute to this special day together”

Retired faculty member Prof. Dr. Murat Aydın also shared his thoughts:

“In reality, we are a big team—our doctors, nurses, dietitians, parents, and children. November 14 is recognized worldwide as Diabetes Day, and various activities aim to raise awareness. With this tree-planting ceremony, now in its second year, we wanted to contribute to this special day together. I thank all of you for your participation, support, and unity, and welcome you all once again.”

The event concluded with the taking of commemorative photos.
