Speaking at the opening of the ceremony, Samsun Forest Operation Director Celal Kambur listed the benefits of forests to the environment, economy and all living beings and continued: "To leave to future generations a clean environment and habitable world, forests should be protected, developed, broadened and erosion should be prevented. In our country, where a great deal of the lands are under the threat of desertification and erosion, the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs and field services put a great effort to increase our forest asset, heal disordered forest lands, prevent erosion and reestablish disordered environmental balances. It is our priority target to increase the forest land of our country from 28 percent to 30. With support to the forestry industry, the forestry organization is on its way to becoming the locomotive of progress."

Giving voice to the words "to protect the forest is to protect the homeland", Celal Kambur continued ended their words inviting all the participants to the "A Greener Turkey Campaign" started by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

"Green is the color of the habitable and sustainable environment"

Starting their speech conveying the regards of Rector Sait Bilgiç, who could not attend the ceremony because of an out-of-town program, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Cengiz said: "A habitable world has two important elements, which are a habitable and sustainable environment. These concepts have a color in common; green. In this regard, it is very important to have a week reminding us of this color, in order to create awareness. I would like to thank for the efforts of those who organized this event to create awareness."

"Plaques transformed into sapling certificates at OMU"

Pointing out that OMU started to give sapling certificates instead of plaques since 2017 in order to create an environmental consciousness and awareness and has brought together a great number of saplings and soil in this scope, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Cengiz stated the following: "This environment belongs to us all. Today we will live and tomorrow leave it to our children. Therefore, we bear the responsibility to do what befalls on us to realize what is required to protect the environment."

"We are losing the sacred homeland alongside forests with erosion"

Commemorating Afrin martyrs and all martyrs with respect, gratitude and mercy, Samsun Deputy Governor Hakan Kubalı said: "Homeland is sacred. This sacredness stems from the effort shown and blood shed for it. As we lose our forests one by one, we also lose the homeland through erosion. Therefore, forests are of vital.  Forests are civilization, water and greenery. In short, forests are everything. It is vital to protect our forests, as life without forests would be unimaginable. I also think we have to self-criticize. We are unfortunately ill-informed. If we sacrifice forests to concrete, forests will be lessened. It is up to us to protect the forest, green and nature."

After the speeches, protocol members, students and soldiers planted the saplings. Participating in the planting event, nursing school students became environment-friendly and learned from authorities how to plant a sapling and were informed about the importance of trees.

The planting ceremony ended with the planting of 3200 saplings by the officials.
