The “Defense Industry Days” event was organized by the IEEE Student Branch operating under Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Engineering. Hosted by the Faculty of Engineering, the event attracted strong interest from both academic circles and students.

The event was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. Yıldıray Topçu, vice deans, academic and administrative staff, and a large number of students. Within the scope of the program, expert representatives working at leading institutions of the defense industry shared their knowledge and experiences with students.

Prof. Dr. Topçu: “Our country has made extraordinary breakthroughs in the defense industry”

Speaking at the opening of the event, OMU Faculty of Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Yıldıray Topçu stated:

“Our country has made extraordinary breakthroughs in the defense industry, especially in recent years. Being strong in the defense industry, remaining constantly prepared, and sustaining this strength are extremely important. Every effort in this field is very valuable from this perspective, but it is not sufficient; more is needed. The defense industry should not be viewed merely as a career opportunity. You must also take into account its ethical and humanitarian dimensions. Countries like Türkiye, which can use this power peacefully and for the benefit of humanity, need engineers who are educated with this awareness.”

Following the opening remarks, the event—bringing together leading defense industry institutions with students—continued with thematic sessions after the initial information sharing.

In the first sessions of the event, Mehmet Öztürk, Information Technologies Director at ASPİLSAN; Tuğçe Yağcıoğlu, Lead Engineer at ASELSAN; Abdurrahman Er and Recep Gülçiçek from the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK); and Gökçen Arslan from TUSAŞ delivered their presentations. Participants gained comprehensive insights into current developments in the defense industry, career opportunities, and the role of engineering within the sector.

On the second day of the event, Ahmet Ethem Danış, presenting on behalf of TUSAŞ, introduced future engineer candidates to the company’s working culture, the advantages it offers, and the development opportunities provided to young engineers. Following his presentation, Danış answered questions from students and shared detailed information about TUSAŞ projects, career opportunities, and expectations in the field of engineering.

At the end of the program, plaques of appreciation were presented to the speakers. The event concluded with a group photo session.
