A sustainable social center project is planned for Yakakent in this term within the scope of Architectural Design Studio (MIM 302) course, which is given in the third year of undergraduate education by the Faculty of Architecture at the Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU). Idea projects will be carried out in order to revive the old port area where the land is located within the scope of the project.

The technical visit held for seeing the project area on site and getting the necessary information from the authorities was paid with the participation of Prof. Derya Oktay, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Head of the Department, Saya Kaynama, Cem Ayık, Hüseyin Başnamlı, Hüseyin Özbulut, Research Assistants Özlem Çavuş, Nilay Nida Can, Yeliz Emecen, Volkan Er and 61 students taking the above-mentioned course.

“We would like to take benefit from the knowledge of the faculty“

Mayor Hüseyin Kıyma gave information to the academicians and then to the students in order to give support to the project which was greatly appreciated by the Municipality of Yakakent. Then the analyses started to be made by paying a visit to the project area together with the municipality expert. At the end of the trip, ideas were also exchanged at the Mayor's Office. Prof. Oktay thanked Mayor Kıyma for his hospitality and support. President Hüseyin Kıyma said: "we would like to benefit from the knowledge of the Faculty for the development of the urban and architectural texture of Yakakent".
