Ondokuz Mayıs University Turkish Language Research and Application Center organized a student’s debate entitled “Is First Men or Today’s Men Happier?”.

Director of Turkish Language Research and Application Center Assist. Prof. Dr. Yakup Poyraz, Vice Director Assist. Prof. Dr. Ömer Saraç, OMU Turkish Executive Board Member Assist. Prof. Dr. Salih Demirbilek, Assist. Prof. Dr. Cafer Özdemir, academic staff, lecturers and a great number of international students participated in the debate organized for the first time within the body of the university.

The preparer of the event, which took place in Altınkum Özel Eğitim Uygulama Merkezi (Altınkum Special Education Application Center) Fehmi Yıldız Conference Hall Lecturer, Dr. Kadir Yalınkılıç pointed out that such an event had been organized for the first time and said “This being the first time this event is held renders this event the more meaningful. In fact, we may be making a suggestion to our university with today’s event to be held. As far as I know we do not have a debate club. Thus, this event may conduce toward the forming of such a club. Furthermore, we predict that through this event a suggestion would be made to include international students also within that community.”

Salih Demirbilek, Cafer Özdemir and Ömer Saraç were the members of the jury committee. Comprised of 4 international students, each of the groups A and B defended their thoughts and claims on the subject in 7 minutes. Native and international students watching the debate supported their favoured group with applauds from time to time.

At the end of the debate, gifts were presented to the winners in accordance with the evaluation criteria of the jury committee
