Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) gathered at the Afghanistan Introductory Day. The colorful event at the Ataturk Congress and Culture Center was jointly organized by Afghan students and the International Relations Office.

The event was attended by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sevilhan Mennan, the International Relations Office, academicians, and Afghan students. Speaking at the event Prof. Dr. Mennan said “Internationalization is a success of our 41 year old university which we are all proud of. When our Rector took office, he began with a theory of whether the ratio of the number of international students to the total number of students could be raced to 4%. At present, the ratio reached 5% for bachelor and 6% for master degree students. This makes us very happy. This is the success and proud of us all. Afghan students are also part of this group. Afghanistan is a country with a different importance for us. We have around 180 Afghan students. Our aim is to raise this number. You, Afghan students will support us in achieving this. Each and every one of you is the representative of OMU in your own countries and cities. You are our ambassadors.”

A visual presentation was conducted after the speech on the history, historical sites, products and traditional food of Afghanistan. The Turk-Afghan friendship was also emphasized.

Traditional musical instruments were played, samples of traditional folk dances were presented and poems were read in Pashto in the Afghan Introduction Day. Plates of Afghan rice were offered to the guests at the end of the event.
