A musical play entitled "From 19 May 1919 to the Great Victory" was performed at Ondokuz Mayıs University subsequent to the exhibition titled "Way of Independence in the 100th Year of the National War".
The program which was organized in Atakum Culture and Art Center of Samsun Metropolitan Municipality was held with the participation of OMU Rector Prof. Sait Bilgiç, Vice Rector Prof. Vedat Ceyhan, Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Menderes Kabadayı, OMU Senate Members, faculty members, students and citizens.
The program started with the exhibition titled "Way of Independence in the 100th Year of the National War". The exhibition, which was held before the musical and drew great interest of the visitors, was immortalized with the souvenir photo of the academicians exhibiting their arts.
Following the exhibition, a thematic concert titled "From 19 May 1919 to the Great Victory" was performed.
The choir composed of the students of OMU State Conservatory, Department of Traditional Turkish Music, and guest artists, it was conducted by Assoc. Prof. Serhat Yener.
Vice Rector Prof. Vedat Ceyhan made a speech at the opening of the concert and he remarked: "Different feelings, losses of lives and goods and many other events were experienced at the period of the "War of Independence". As OMU , we thought that we should share these feelings together. It is important not to express the feelings but to live them in reality. Therefore, I would like to thank everyone who shared our feelings and who did not leave us alone.Visual demonstrations, traditional music and theatrical animation illustrating the War of Independence were performed in the program which aimed to identify the period elapsing until the establishment of the Republic of Turkey with the 100th anniversary of 19 May which Atatürk announced to be his birthday.
At the end of the concert, Rector Prof. Sait Bilgiç thanked the whole team, and he presented OMU's commemorative money for the 100th anniversary of 19 May designed by Prof. Ata Yakup Kaptan to Prof. Sevgi Koyuncu and Master Assoc. Prof. Serhat Yener.
