Dağ gave applied training on data journalism to 35 people consisting of academicians and students of Faculty of Communication. Students had the opportunity to devise their own projects at the end of the training which lasted an entire day.

"Public interest is the goal of data journalism"

Dağ, while explaining the necessary elements required for data journalism, said the following: “During the data collection phase we must know what we are looking for and where to look for the certain types of data. Knowing these will accelerate us in the process to reach information. We can make faster progress in terms of data journalism when we start to gather data on subjects which interest us.”

Laying emphasize on the importance of public interest among data journalism’s goals, Dağ continued her words; “Data journalism can tackle the topics with transparency. Data journalism constitutes as documents and evidence in terms of journalism; and it contains data processing, visualization, story/news, team work, and other important elements following the data acquisition stage.”

"Be curious and start"

Making suggestions to those who would like to work in the field of data journalism; Dağ said the following: “Curiosity is an important drive while undertaking data journalism. Later on, reading literature, following labels, spending time on Excel, having a basic knowledge on statistics, and analyzing sample projects will guide us in data journalism”.

Data journalism training was concluded with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation to Pınar Dağ.
