Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Dentistry gave 125 graduates at the ceremony held at the Atatürk Congress and Culture Center.
Vice Rectors Prof. Vedat Ceyhan and Prof. Mehmet Ali Cengiz, Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Selim Arıcı, deans of other faculties, Samsun Chamber of Dentists Head Dr. Abdullah İlker, academicians, graduates and their families participated in the 20th graduation ceremony.
Delivering the opening speech of the ceremony, Chamber of Dentists Head Dr. Abdullah İlker stated that despite being a difficult profession, dentistry is also joyous and advised graduates to do their specialties.
Pointing out that OMU Faculty of Dentistry is in very good shape in terms of both physical equipment and the quality of academic staff, Abdullah İlker said to new graduates “protect the academicians, professional associations, colleagues and principles of Atatürk”.
Underlining that to become a good and successful person one has to be honest, Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Selim Arıcı said “Be honest to your patients, profession and colleagues throughout all the phases of your life. Despite hitting the bottom from time to time in the ups and downs of life, if you are an honest person undoubtedly you will get to the top again.”
Stating that the new graduates go through a challenging education period, Prof. Dr. Selim Arıcı said “Today is a nice day where you get the results of your studies. Each of you now possess invisible gold bracelets due to the education you took here.”
Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Selim Arıcı finished his speech thanking both the families and academicians for their effort and support.
Attending the event as Deputy Rector, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Vedat Ceyhan delivered the love and congratulations of Rector Prof. Dr. Sait Bilgiç and said “On my way here I thought how many cooperation in the world could be as beautiful as this, as today we witness the result of a brilliant cooperation of families, who put their whole, academicians, who put their knowledge, and hardworking dentists”.
Vice Rector Vedat Ceyhan advised the graduates to pursue their dreams without losing their excitement and asked of them not to break connections with OMU and give the Graduates Coordinatorship their details and said “It is a privilege to study at and graduate from OMU”.
After the speeches, faculty top ranking student Rahmi Gediş received his graduation certificate and awards from Vice Rector Vedat Ceyhan; Faculty 2nd ranking Aylin Çalışkan from Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Cengiz; faculty 3rd ranking Gülizar Aksu from Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Selim Arıcı. Samsun Chamber of Dentists Head Dr. Abdullah İlker gave badges to the top, 2nd and 3rd ranking students.
Faculty top ranking student Rahmi Gediş nailed his name on the graduation log with Prof. Dr. Selim Arıcı.
After all graduates received their documents and awards, the graduates recited the “Oath of Dentistry” under the leadership of Dean Prof. Dr. Selim Arıcı.
The ceremony ended with the ritual of throwing caps.
