1600 Teacher Candidates Graduate From the University

The Faculty of Education at Ondokuz Mayıs University saw the graduates of 2016-2017 Academic Year off in the graduation ceremony held in the astroturf of OMU.

The ceremony where 1600 students graduated from the university was held with the participation of Prof. Mehmet Ali Cengiz, Principal Consultant of the Rector, Prof. Dursun Ali Akbulut, Dean of the Faculty of Education, the deans of other faculties, academicians, graduates and their families.

The ceremony began with a speech by Gamze Koca, a student of the Department of Teacher Training for the Mentally Challenged, on behalf of graduating students. Gamze Koca stated that their graduations were a small part of the efforts of the families and the academicians, and she remarked: “We promise that we will never cheat on the honor of teaching and that we will not drop the sacred flag”.

"Teacher prepares the student for life"

Prof. Dursun Ali Akbulut, Dean of the Faculty of Education, defined the teacher as the person sharing his/her knowledge, love and experiences with his/her students and preparing them for the life. He also stated: “I recommend you to follow in the footsteps of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our state and the savior of our nationality, and to remember his saying: “Teachers, new generation will be your devotion”. Prof. Akbulut also thanked the families of the students, the personnel working in the Rector’s office and academicians. He concluded his remarks by wishing Allah’s mercy for our soldiers losing their lives in Şırnak.

"You will do one of the most sacred professions"

Prof. Mehmet Ali Cengiz, Principal Consultant of the Rector, stated that Rector Prof. Said Bilgic was unable to attend the ceremony due to his program in Ankara. Prof. Cengiz also remarked: “you will do one of the most sacred professions. In life, there is a mission of every profession, but I believe that every human being is a mission. I suggest you to create a mission and vision for yourself and to be happy with small things.”

Students ranking first, second and third in the Faculty of Education were announced after the speeches. Gamze Koca, a student in the Department of Mentally Retarded Teaching, and Esra Ekiz, a student in the Department of German Language Teaching, ranked first in the faculty by having the same accumulative grade point average. Yasin İplik, a student in the Department of Turkish Education, ranked third in the faculty.

The students ranking first in the faculty received their certificates and awards from Prof. Mehmet Ali Cengiz; Prof. Dursun Ali Akbulut, Dean of the Faculty of Education, gave the graduation certificate and the award to the student ranking third.

The graduation ceremony ended after the graduates threw their caps.
