The 2016-2017 academic year graduation ceremony of Yaşar Doğu Faculty of Sport Sciences has been held.
The graduation ceremony held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the faculty was participated by Rector Prof. Sait Bilgiç, Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Menderes Kabadayı, Yaşar Doğu Faculty of Sport Sciences Dean Prof. Mehmet Emirzeoğlu, deans of faculties, academic staff, families and students.
Top ranking student Halil İbrahim Ürkmez, delivering the first speech of the ceremony, said “While being proud to have completed my education in a city where the Independence War started, I wish to remind you of Atatürk’s words: ‘Success belongs to the one who sets out saying I will be successful and can say I became successful’”.
Underlying the fact that Yaşar Doğu Faculty of Sport Sciences is the first of its kind in Turkey, Dean Prof. Emirzeoğlu stated “You young people have today completed your education which has been ongoing for a long time. Up from this day you are individuals responsible to yourselves, your families and also your country. We believe that each one of you will also become individuals who will be of benefit to the upcoming generations in the works you will do with the education you received here and, putting your signatures under great successes, you will make your families proud.”
Addressing the graduate students Prof. Sait Bilgiç said “You have officially arrived at the end of studentship. You will feel the need to learn things throughout your life. You will take on important tasks in the field you have been raised, and especially, the development, gaining power and voice of Turkish sports. You will also make contributions enabling the true steering of sports activities of not only to professional sports people but also people from all ages and strata. Each one of you will be a light in this matter and illuminate their surroundings. Please remember that as a society we are in dire need of qualified labor force. We whole heartedly trust our youth.”
The diplomas of the third ranking student of the faculty Hayri Demir was given by Vice Dean Prof. Yalçın Taşmektepligil, that of the second ranking student Aykut Çelik by Faculty Dean Prof. Emirzeoğlu and that of the top ranking student Halil İbrahim Üzülmez by Rector Prof. Sait Bilgiç. As the top ranking student, Halil İbrahim Üzülmez nailed his name on the log. Afterwards, the top ranking students of the four different departments were handed their diplomas by the faculty staff.
Another interesting detail about the ceremony was that a graduating student proposed to his also graduating girlfriend in front of the protocol and other students. This was acclaimed by the whole hall and created an emotional atmosphere. After the handing of all the diplomas, the ceremony ended with the cap throwing ritual.
