The Tanyeli (Zephyr) Rocket team, founded by the students of Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, the students of Samsun University, Department of Aerospace Engineering, and the students of Karabük University, Department of Computer Engineering with the support of Atakum Youth Center, came in first in the “Rocket Low Altitude” category at TEKNOFEST 2020.
The championship award, 50000 Turkish Lira, was presented to the Tanyeli (Zephyr) Rocket team by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at a ceremony held at Gaziantep Middle East Exhibition Center on September 26, 2020. After that, President Erdoğan visited the team’s booth, signed the rocket designed by students, and received a briefing from the supervisor of the team.
Faculty Member of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz, who is also the academic supervisor of Tanyeli Rocket Team, emphasized that, founded only eight months ago, Tanyeli Rocket Team has had a great success in a short period of time and despite the pandemic thanks to our students’ hard work.
Stating that they participated in TEKNOFEST competitions for the first time, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz shared the conversation he had with President Erdoğan during the award ceremony. In his speech, he stated that “ President Erdoğan advised team members about setting higher goals and designing rockets for even higher altitudes and he encouraged them to work hard to achieve their targets. He also obtained a promise from the students to work with determination for the sake of National Technology.”
The TEKNOFEST Aerospace and Technology Festival is organized under the leadership of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Industry and Technology and the Turkish Technology Team Foundation (T3), which aims at making a “Move of National Technology” and transforming Turkey into a technology producing society, with the support of Turkey’s major institutions and companies.
